About Mrs. Woodrum:
I couldn't be more excited to be a 1st grade teacher at Weatherstone Elementary! I have a big heart for building a positive classroom community and meeting the individual needs of students. I grew up outside of Polkville, NC (a tiny town in the foothills) and I have lived in Raleigh since 2013. I received my Bachelor's from Gardner-Webb University and worked for many years as a college advisor before receiving my Master's in Elementary Education from NC State. My husband Sam is an elementary school counselor in Raleigh and we live with our two cats Carl and Zoe. I love to create (woodworking, knitting, sewing painting, etc), hiking, staring at waterfalls, playing board games, gardening, traveling, and having fun with our 7 nieces and nephews!
Classroom Management:
We observe all of the school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) initiatives and encourage students to SAIL throughout the whole school whether we are in the cafeteria, at recess, in the library, in the hallway, in our classroom, etc. The SAIL acronym stands for Safe Accountable Independent Leaders. When our class is caught SAILing, we will receive a paper "sail" that can be exchanged in increments of 25 for positive rewards.
In our classroom, we use a clip chart that encourages students to follow our class rules: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Caring, and Be Safe. Students will earn points based on their position on the clip chart at the end of each day and can exchange their points every other Friday for various classroom rewards.
